As part of an operation carried out by Phetchaburi immigration, several individuals have been arrested under the campaign “X-Ray Risk Area/High-Risk Foreigners,” highlighting the authorities’ rigorous efforts to enforce immigration laws.

 

On March 27, 2024, at 1:40 PM, Phetchaburi Immigration Office, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Hattaporn Sewakorn, conducted an operation resulting in the arrest of a 62-year-old Norwegian man, identified only as Mr. John. The arrest was made in Cha-am District, specifically at the Pilla Room, Room No. 20, located at 52/3 Moo 2, Sam Phraya Sub-district.

 

Mr. John faces charges for overstaying his visa, formally accused of “being a foreigner who entered and remained in the Kingdom without permission.” This operation underscores the ongoing vigilance of the immigration authorities in monitoring and acting against foreign nationals staying illegally in the country.

Bloody Foreigners!!!

He doesn't really seem to fit the profile of a 'high-risk foreigner', but he shouldn't have overstayed his visa.. At his age, and assuming he has a nice Norwegian pension-check coming every month, it's quite easy for him to get a proper (non-o) long-term visa.

Would be interesting to know by how long he over stayed. One case last year a man was found to have over stayed by 15 years! With all the 90 day reporting and the modern age of computers, am sure they could have software that pings an expired visia?

Nothing but assumptions, most murderers and rapists look like the average Joe too. He could have lived abroad most of his life meaning ZERO pension, I will barely ever get more than 200 dollars monthly, if I keep being abroad today until retirement age too.

Wow, you pay 3,000 more than I do and my agent also does all my 90-day reports.

Need to focus on these Norwegians….far too many of them, drunkards, stealing Thai jobs, running businesses, thugs, mafia, crashing motorbikes and cars…..oh wait! That’s not the Norwegians is it?

Lock up this hardened criminal and throw away the key! And ban him for life... 😬

 

(As there is no mention of either, how long that "criminal" overstayed, or when he had arrived, I presume it was less than a week overstay. Anyway, this will teach those pesky foreigners to stay 'too long'... 😝)

Not to criticise but why was there any need to overstay. 

 

Norway is also one of the best countries in the world where older people are the happiest so he is going back home to a good place.

Back in 1983, my wife's first job was to match immigration entries/exits at the Belconen (ACT) immigration office. All movements being stored on an IBM mainframe. Overstay cases were referred to Federal police. Here they wait until a xenophobic neighbour dobs you in.

I think you'll find immigration goes through their database and picks up anomalies and acts on them. Nobody reported that farang who overstayed his visa by one day who was arrested at Phuket Airport not long ago. No one reported that foreigner who was 3 hours short of overstaying and arrested at his residence, also in Phuket (meaning he was arrested at 9pm on the last day of his visa). The latter case strikes me as strange, immigration isn't supposed to come after someone who isn't yet on overstay, even if it looks like you will.

Is that targeting high-risk foreigners, or attempting to make all foreigners sound high-risk?

Not all Norwegian pensioners end up with all there pension if they owe child maintenance over the years.

The law allows the state to take a large percentage of there pension when owing child maintenance which many Norwegians fit that situation.

Some of them can be racist and rude and would be better back in  Norway then in Thailand.
