A couple of years ago, I used to frequent the beer garden in the Suan Lum night bazaar. However, I received word a couple of months ago that it's been shut down, and it looks like it's true, as I drove past it the other day and saw that it had disappeard. :o

Anyone know when it shut down? Did it move somewhere else? I loved going there with a bunch of friends. If it's gone for good, does anyone know a place similar to the beer garden?

Cheers.

One by one all the units will close down on the whole site and either move or just finish as the lease contract has ended to make way for a possible new development by central.

My absolute favourite place in BKK to socialise and meet friends is gone :D:D:D:o:D

I´d also like to know where there is a similar place in BKK.

That place was just perfect for me,wife and kids.

Please keep me up-to-date

yes, very sad day for BKK residents. Being right next to the park and subway was both a blessing and a curse for the night bazzar. It made it easy to get to and valuable for developers who think we need more malls.

I'm surprised that they didn't relocate to a new spot.

They used to have anti-Thaksin rallies there on Friday nights. That could have helped out a bit. I went there only one time. It was too far out of my way to go back. I didn't see anything really special about it compared to other outdoor venues. There is a new place for relaxing nights I guess. It's called the Esplanade. I think its at the Thailand cultural center on RathcadaPisek.

Yeah I hate when that sort of thing happens. I remember just over a year ago they closed down the beer garden outside Pantip Plaza and I was gutted. Being a bit of a techie I would head to Pantip while the GF went looking at shoes or something. I would end up by having some delicious Kow Soi in the food court and then heading to the beer garden outside for a "couple" :D

I made friends with quite a few people there (mostly Thai, Chinese, Singapore etc) who owned shops in Pantip or surrounding areas and we would enjoy a few beers, shoot the breeze and watch the world go by. I would practice Thai with some of them or exchange business ideas, get introduced to nice girls etc.

As you will know if you have been there it was generally packed out all the time AND they did not obey the local daytime drinking curfew times as the owner was very powerful and could open when he pleased.

WHAT DID THEY DO? they turned it into another one of those Thai donut kiosks ! :o

As soon as that happened I lost contact with most of these guys and trips to Pantip were nowhere near as enjoyable as they used to be. Also the donut shop had almost ZERO customers - som nom na !

Anybody know what is there now ? as I am not in BKK. I'm damned sure it won't be that bloody donut kiosk !

Kankaroo.
