Increased road traffic is reported on the main arterial routes to northern and north-eastern provinces today, as people begin their journeys home a day ahead of the long official Songkran holidays, which last from tomorrow until Tuesday.

 

The major exodus will start tomorrow.

 

At Government House today, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin presided over a merit-making ceremony ahead of the Songkran festival by paying respects to the Brahma shrine, attending a religious ceremony and receiving blessings from a senior monk.

My gal drove from the Chaiyaphum area to Bangkok today, and said the traffic was very light, so it is likely most are already at their destinations, or on the way.

This morning at the train station probably 10 times the amount of people, compared to usual, got on the train.

But at least they all still fitted in that train.

I am sure tomorrow and Saturday it will be worse.

My bet is FRiday will see the surge in travel.
