I often wondered why so many dentists in Pattaya

I'm thinking they must be competing with each other

Well today I contact 4 dentists by phone , the root canal specialist isn't available until next Tuesday

Another one said May 7th

Another one I rang said there " normal " dentist is available tommrrw afternoon first appointment 5pm

And it goes on ,all fully booked days in advance ,try seeing a specialist takes weeks

The dentists doctors do their rounds at different clinics and hospitals, some even teach at universities.

Not Pattaya but the dentist I see at Samitivej hospital is in full time attendance and she is booked up months in advance.

Had a problem with one of my teeth when in Nangrong (near Buriram). Went to the locsl6 dental smile clinic to make an appointment.  Learned that there is no 'appointment system' (just wait for your turn). When looking around I counted (at least) 40 people in the waiting room....

Dental World Chiang Mai.  My wife experienced that same thing with a dentist in Lamphun.  "Sorry, no see root canal dentist for three weeks."
Called Dental World and was in the next day.  If you're in pain - fly to Chiang Mai.  Dental World is a large organization with a lot of dentists and specialists and I'm sure they can fit you in ASAP.

The specialists are usually driving in from Bangkok.

You can take the bus from north pattaya bus station to bkk for only 140 baht. It's not that bad a trip, maybe 2 1/2 hrs. I actually started going there and coming back the same day for my dental work. It's not that bad. I get there, have my work done, then hit a bar for beers, then return via Ekkamai bus station which is right on the skytrain station.

Actually the dentist told me today better to pull the teeth than root canal ! It can't be saved he said

But whilst there I got 3 X fillings just plain white filiings.... expensive at 2700 b..that's 900 baht a filling !

I can get that in Australia with my health fund rebate !

I was astounded at the bill after and question them ,900 b they said per filling !!!!!

I'm pretty sure it's 600 and other places ,even Philippines is 300 pesos a filling !

Haha! I have two main molars now with root canals and crowns that work fine.

In both cases, a dentist told me there was no hope and to pull them! Occured with different dentists, years apart in different countries.

Be careful who you listen to! Do movie stars have missing teeth?

Your right I'm thinking of getting a second opinion

This is a Pattaya dentist who just charged me 2700 bahh for 3 X fillings hate to see what he wants to remove thr molar tooth.

It looks ok to me he said it's infected apparently and has a "hollow deep cavity" ???

I get no.pain from it , the dentist in Australia told me to get a root canal so I waited until Thailand

You probably need to goto a top place in bangkok where the good doctors are. You will need to pay more to get someone who knows what they are doing and save that tooth.

Otherwise, you end up like one of those old guys in pattaya at the bar with missing teeth and some quack dentist thinking they know how to do implants.

Their are root canal dentists ??

I thought that is standard treatment, that just about every dentist can perform.

Implant specialists yes, but a standard root canal. Never been to a dentist, that wasn't able to perform one.

I think you combined Endodontist and Orthodontist. You would want an Endodontist

Today I will go to see the "root canal specialist" ,

Might be easier just to have the bloody tooth out !

I paid 500 for a filling 2 months ago in Pattaya.

Correct. In Thailand they won't say I don't know how to do it or I don't have the correct modern equipment. They will just try the best they can (like with old school files instead of the spray and microscope).

Best case usually is they might make a benign excuse to not do it for some reason, or if you're lucky refer you to a specialist (Endodontist).

Let us know what the endodontist said and did.

I made an appointment with the highly recommended dentist on Klang that I've been seeing for years.  The appointment was 2 weeks out.  When I arrived on time, there were 8 people in the waiting room, noone at reception, and 3 more people arrived in the 10 minutes I waited.  Seems they had overbooked by quite a bit.  I went to Pattaya memorial dental clinic, booked an appointment 5 days out, and was seen by the dentist at my appointment time.  I think I'll stick with the hospital dental clinic moving forward.  Not sure what the price difference is (paid 10k baht for a zirconia crown?), but I don't like waiting for an hour+ after my appointment time.

That sounds like a good price to me. Many dentist do put prices on the websites. So its not a problem to compare. In the end its the quality that counts and if you are happy with the result.
