Thailand has been selected to host the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) annual conference for the first time in Southeast Asia. The conference, which will take place from May 15-17, 2024, at The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok, highlights Thailand's standing as a key agricultural center. Participants will also tour Talad Thai, the largest fully integrated wholesale agricultural market in the ASEAN.

The WUWM, which includes wholesale market operators from more than 40 countries, is working alongside the Thai Agricultural Wholesale Market Association (TAWMA) and Talad Thai to bring this global meeting to Bangkok. This conference will bring together key players in the wholesale agricultural and fresh food industry.

The WUWM Bangkok 2024 conference will focus on how technologies can make markets more relevant, efficient, and diverse. The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Zhu Dongyu, will give a keynote address.

The conference will discuss various subjects, including Asia's global relevance, digital transformation of wholesale markets, connecting the Southeast Asian supply chain, and sustainability issues.

TAWMA President Pradit Phatraprasit, who is also a Talad Thai shareholder, noted that the conference is a crucial global event that attracts industry leaders. Over 300 attendees from around the world are set to attend this year, showcasing Thailand and Talad Thai's potential and preparedness to meet global demands and strengthening their role as a regional agricultural trading center.

Delegates will also visit Talad Thai to learn about its infrastructure, operations, and modern processes. This visit coincides with Thailand's fruit season, adding a showcase of local fruits like durian, mangosteen, mango, long kong, salak, rambutan, and lychee.

The WUWM Bangkok 2024 conference is a significant step for Thailand's growing influence on the international food supply chain. It demonstrates the potential for technological advancements to change how wholesale markets work.
