The Department of Corrections (DoC) faced intense criticism yesterday for transferring Vonnarat Tangkaravakoon, a key suspect in the Stark Corporation scandal, to the Police General Hospital (PGH). Victims of the financial debacle accuse officials of granting him special treatment.

Affected investors, seeking transparency, petitioned Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong. They discovered that Vonnarat, the largest shareholder of Stark, was receiving medical care in what they believe to be a luxurious setting at the PGH.

Vonnarat is among seven suspects charged with forgery, fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering under the Securities and Exchange Act. The alleged misconduct affected 4,704 shareholders and resulted in damages estimated at 14.7 billion baht.

Detained at Bangkok Remand Prison since February 12 following a denied bail request, he was recently seen at the PGH. This has sparked outrage among the victims, who questioned the fairness of his treatment. Vonnarat was initially confined in the Corrections Hospital before his transfer.

Dr Pongpak Areeyapinant, the Acting Director of the Corrections Hospital, addressed the controversy at a press conference. He stated that Vonnarat developed swollen testicles after a week in detention and was prescribed antibiotics for a suspected infection. A medical examination revealed a 5cm lump, likely malignant, prompting the transfer to PGH on April 23. Vonnarat underwent surgery on May 1.

The atmosphere at the press conference was tense. Victims demanded details on who funded Vonnarat's medical costs, further fuelling suspicions over preferential treatment.

The scandal continues to unravel, with victims and the public keenly watching for the next development in the pursuit of justice for all affected shareholders.

Clearly a new hub for Thailand: VIP prisoner treatment.

I am sure that is a great business for the participants. And recently they have lots of free marketing in the press.

Called using your ill-gotten gains for your continued benefits!!!!

Swollen testicles? Could someone in the prison service be an investor?

Remember when Thaksin was at PGH and everyone demanded to know his medical condition, but were quoted privacy laws instead. Looks like "swollen testicles" are not private, but public.

Well if they say she is there for the same reason as Stark man then that needs a committee to investigate it

Well - it worked so well with Mr T - why not turn it into a service?

More Hotel-spitals for Thailand too!
