A large monitor lizard shocked people when it walked into an office of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Sara Buri, Thailand. The unexpected visit led to a call for help from rescue volunteers to move the creature safely.

The security officers at the PEA office in Sara Buri’s Pak Phriao area saw the huge reptile, which weighed about 30 kgs, near a Toyota pickup truck parked nearby. They were worried for the safety of the lizard and also the staff, so they called the Sawang Rattanatrai Thammasathan Sara Buri Rescue Foundation for help.

The rescuers got to the scene fast and found the monitor lizard hissing and hiding under the Toyota truck. They tried to loop a rope around the lizard's neck to secure it, but the strong animal slipped free and ran under a white Isuzu pickup truck.

Despite the tough situation, the rescuers were set on capturing the lizard safely. One brave rescue team member wore a motorcycle taxi jacket and chased the lizard. The team used different methods, such as catching its tail and using a rope loop, until they secured the animal. They then covered the lizard's eyes and tied it up securely before loading it onto a rescue motorcycle to take it away.

The aim was to let the monitor lizard go back into its natural home, making sure it wouldn’t cause problems in the town area. Som Chiangkam, a 61-year-old security officer at the PEA office, talked about the first time he saw the lizard. He saw it approaching the parked cars while he was working. But because of the lizard's large size, he found it hard to catch, so he called for professional help. Som humorously wondered if the lizard had come to pay its electricity bill because its power had been cut off.

Thanks to the fast and professional help from the rescue volunteers, the monitor lizard was moved safely. This prevented any harm to both the animal and the locals. Close encounters with wild animals are not rare in Thailand. Fast urban development sometimes sees animals wander into human places looking for food or shelter. These episodes remind us that we should live peacefully with animals and should be ready to handle these situations in a kind and efficient way.
