Vaccinations:

"Overall, 63.0% of all people aged 75 years and over in England had been vaccinated with a spring 2024 booster dose since 15 April 2024."

...

"By the end of week 26 2024, (week ending 30 June 2024), 63.0% (3,367,253 out of 5,835,879) of all people aged 75 years and over who are living and resident in England had received a vaccine dose in the spring 2024 campaign (Figure 5)."

Poster's Note: the age 75 and older population was the target population eligible for government-provided COVID vaccinations for the spring 2024 government vaccinations campaign. Younger people were not eligible for the government-provided COVID vaccinations, but could purchase them thru private pharmacies in England.

Sure thing.....

"According to World Health Organization data, 400,000 lives in England are estimated to have been saved up to March 2023 due to the COVID-19 vaccine programme."

https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2024/04/16/whos-eligible-for-the-2024-covid-19-vaccine-or-spring-booster/

AND

Fact Check: No evidence to link UK excess deaths to COVID-19 vaccines

...

"ONS data show all-cause deaths in England were higher among the unvaccinated than those who had received at least one dose, for every month in its April 2021 to May 2023.

“There is no evidence COVID-19 vaccinations are linked to these estimated excess deaths,” a spokeswoman for the ONS said via email.

Experts point to the long-term effects of surviving COVID infection, NHS delays and a lack of preventive care as explanations for the higher-than-average mortalities."

Government accepts advice on 2024 autumn COVID-19 vaccine programme

Minister Andrew Gwynne has accepted advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

2 August 2024

The government has accepted advice from the JCVI for an autumn COVID-19 vaccination programme this year.

...

On the advice of the expert JCVI all those aged 65 or over, all those in care homes for older people, and those aged 6 months or over who are in a clinical risk group will be eligible for vaccination this autumn.

Vaccination offers the best protection for those at risk of serious outcomes through older age or clinical condition. Protection against serious disease wanes over time so it is important to top it up by getting an autumn dose if you are eligible.

...

The JCVI has not advised offering the vaccine to frontline health and social care workers, staff in care homes for older adults, unpaid carers and household contacts of people with immunosuppression as part of the national programme.

Here's the charts from the latest UKHSA weekly COVID update for England as of Aug. 29:

My text summary - Newly reported weekly COVID deaths (at 166, down 17% for the week ending Aug. 16) fell to their lowest level in the past month, while two other publicly reported COVID indicators both showed substantial improvement in the government's latest weekly COVID update. Those included a 19% decline in new weekly COVID cases (not an especially reliable indicator these days due to sparse testing), and the good sign of a fifth consecutive weekly decline in the positivity rate for COVID testing (7-day rolling average), which dropped from 11.4% to 10% as of Aug. 17. In comparison, the testing positivity rate had peaked at almost 16% and weekly deaths had hit a recent high of 216 in mid-July. There was no updated data for COVID new hospital admissions since the last weekly report. The latest numbers are a possible sign that the spring COVID surge is finally easing.

Among two other publicly reported indicators, weekly COVID cases (not an especially reliable indicator due to sparse testing) increased 4.4% for the week ending Aug. 28.  But the positivity rate for COVID testing (7-day rolling average) continued declining down to 9% from a peak of almost 16% earlier in the summer. There was no updated data for COVID new hospital admissions since the last weekly report. The latest numbers are second consecutive week of data (reported deaths and testing positivity) showing England's spring-summer COVID surge is finally easing.

Here's the charts from the latest UKHSA weekly COVID update for England as of Sept. 12:

My text summary - New weekly COVID deaths reported at 102 (down 21% for the week ending Aug. 30) fell to their lowest level since late May, signaling the apparent end to the spring-summer COVID surge in England. Among two other publicly reported indicators, weekly COVID cases (not an especially reliable indicator due to sparse testing) increased 4.3% for the week ending Sept. 4.  And the positivity rate for COVID testing (7-day rolling average) halted recent declines to 9% and ticked slightly back upward to 10% as of Aug. 31. But a new update on weekly COVID hospital admissions showed 1,465 people admitted through Aug. 29, a decline of 6.6% over the prior data.

Here's the charts from the latest UKHSA weekly COVID update for England as of Sept. 19:

My text summary - Weekly COVID deaths in England at 101 for the week ending September 6 remained just barely above the 100 level. That's not quite down to the recent weekly low of 93 for the week ending May 10, but still less than half of the recent high of 217 for the week ending July 19.

With the mid-year COVID surge in England now largely subsided, it's interesting to note that COVID deaths in this year's mid-year surge peaked at a lower level (217 in mid-July) than the prior early 2024 COVID surge, where weekly COVID deaths in the mid-January to mid-February post-holidays period peaked at 376 for the week ending January 12, and remained above 300 per week through the week ending February 9.
