Hi all i need help understanding which visa i can get to stay in thailand, i have spent a long time reading through the forum and am a little bit confused.

My situation is i have a thai girlfriend in Thailand and i would like to go and live with her for about 6 months to see if we are right for each other before i commit to marriage. Then all being well we would move to europe together.

Is it possible for me to get a visa to stay in thailand for 6 months, i don't want a work permit or anything like that although i will be working voluntarily teaching english at the local school part time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All work requires a work permit. You could have a problem if anyone objects.

For a six month stay without work a 2 entry tourist visa would be enough providing 60+30 exit/return 60+30. If you are from come countries you might be able to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa which would cover up to 15 months at a little extra cost but only a few smaller Consulates, such as Hull, are noted for them without marriage or other such reasons.

Thanks for the reply, i will get in touch with the hull embassy and see if i can get a multi entry non immigrant o visa. As far as the volutary work goes i have been asked to do this by the local municipality if it will cause a problem i will not do it.

I would hate to say you should not help the community; and I am sure it would be a help; but technically you would be in thin ice (and in Thailand that is very thin indeed) without a work permit. But just as police look the other way about gambling laws during funerals do not believe you would have a problem as long as you are not stepping on someones toes.

If you really plan to move to Europe if it works out do not believe the risks are that great.
