safety in Cambodia

Featured Replies

I've only ever spent a few days in Cambodia. But it was enough to see that Phnom Penh seems a bit dodgier than most cities on mainland SEA.

I've read quite a few reports of Westerners getting robbed/assaulted in Phnom Penh. And I realize that some of those casino towns — Bavet, Poipet, Sihanoukville — have some seriously sketchy people.

But what about the less hedonistic places — Battambang, Kampot, Rattanakiri, Stung Treng, etc. Are these places where foreigners get attacked for their stuff?

Also Koh Kong seem safe to me. All towns worth visiting or living

Stay alert, watch your phones, don't carry more than you need.

Watch your environment. I walked all over Phnom Penn city.

Not safe in what way might I ask?

Don't walk with your phone in your hand, that's for sure

I visited 13 years ago, PP and Sihanoukvile, with good travel experience and awareness, no problem...

But I witnessed a robbery, I was fishing on rocks not far from Sihanoukvile main beach. A farang guy came, took off his clothes and went snorkeling right next to me, in a few minutes a few youngsters turned up, one came next to me asking about my fishing..., the other two went to guy's stuff, then suddenly took his things and ran...!

I noticed but it was very rocky and couldn't do anything, but shouted loud, the guy noticed and came out of water but they were long gone..., interestingly the guy next to me was waiting to take my stuff, but realised I stayed close, he gave up and ran away, they were altogether...!

Other than that never saw or experienced anything in 2 or 3 months there...
