August 5, emergency services received a report of a fire within the Huai Pong Open Correctional Facility, located in the Huai Nam Tok Phatthana community.

On arrival, responders found that the fire was in a training building and the facility's staff and inmates had been evacuated, and no casualties were reported.

The fire severely damaged the first floor of the building, but the actions of the emergency response teams ensured that the situation was brought under control in about an hour.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by officials. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have started due to an electrical fault in the training building.

The Huai Pong Open Correctional Facility is part of The Corrections Department’s pre-release prisons, for good-behaviour inmates with less than six months to go on their jail terms and where they receive three months of training on vocational and social skills
