Are the Thai police getting tighter on the drink driving laws?

A couple of male Thai friends came over for a drink and some food last week. For as long as I have known them, and no matter how I protest, they always drink a whole lot and then drive home in very poor condition. This time after a few drinks I did my customers warning against drink driving. The worst perpetrator told me insistently that it is not possible to drink drive like they used to, as the police are very strict now and have breathalyzers. If you are caught there is no more escape via a bribe. I was very surprised and impressed by this: I am always looking for ways that Thailand is improving in its law enforcement.

Two hours later having drunk an entire bottle of whisky between them, and being quite wobbly, they both drove home.

So, are the police really clamping down?
