Driver in Shock as Massive Tree Crushes Car: Miraculous Escape Credited to Amulet

A 43-year-old woman narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal accident when a massive tree, believed to be nearly 100 years old, toppled onto her car, crushing it almost entirely. Miraculously, the driver emerged unscathed and credits her survival to a "Luang Pu Thuat" amulet, a revered talisman she always carries with her.

 

The terrifying incident occurred in the wake of Typhoon Yagi, which passed through Vietnam and Laos, triggering severe thunderstorms across the northeastern regions of Thailand, including Nakhon Phanom. The heavy rains and strong winds caused several large trees along the banks of the Mekong River to collapse, including the century-old flamboyant tree that fell onto the woman's car.

 

The victim, Ms. Krisana, a contractor who normally resides in another province, was visiting relatives in Nakhon Phanom when the accident took place. She had pulled over on Sunthorn Vijit Road, near the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Police Station, to take a phone call as the rain intensified. Unbeknownst to her, the towering tree next to the road was already on the verge of collapsing.

 

 

"It all happened so fast. I didn’t even realise that the tree had fallen until it hit the rear of my car," Ms. Krisana recalled, still visibly shaken. "I was in complete shock. If it weren't for the amulet of Luang Pu Thuat from Wat Paknam that I always carry with me, I might not have survived."

 

The amulet, which Ms. Krisana has kept close to her for years, is believed to provide protection and safety to its wearer. Although the car was severely damaged, with the roof crushed, Ms. Krisana miraculously walked away without a single injury.

 

A passing motorcyclist who witnessed the aftermath quickly rushed to help her out of the wreckage.

In response to the incident, the Nakhon Phanom Municipality dispatched a team of workers to clear the fallen tree and ensure that the road was safe for traffic. Authorities have also issued warnings to residents and motorists to exercise caution, especially around areas with large, aging trees that may be at risk of falling due to deteriorating root structures.

 

"We are urging the public to avoid parking near large trees during heavy rains and strong winds, as these conditions increase the likelihood of trees collapsing," a municipal spokesperson said. "Many of these trees are over 100 years old, and their roots are weakening with age, making them hazardous during storms."

 

As for Ms. Krisana, the municipality is reviewing her case for possible compensation. Local officials noted that regulations allow for compensation in instances where natural disasters or public infrastructure, such as trees, cause damage to life or property.

 

For now, Ms. Krisana is simply grateful to have survived what could have been a deadly accident, attributing her survival to a combination of luck and the protection offered by her cherished amulet. "Cars can be replaced," she said, "but life is irreplaceable. I'm just thankful to be alive."

It was a crappy charm. A decent one would have stopped anything falling on her car in the first place.

I was actually thinking that this was being used as a descriptive word and not the actual type of a tree but thanks.

Maybe authorities could look after the trees, felling the ones that are becoming weak.

 

i know there is cultural reluctance to fell these holy trees, but that should not come before protecting human life and property. 
 

I remember one in Chiang Mai falling onto a motorcycle narrowly missing killing the rider. There are many of these dangerous holy trees in Thailand not being cared for. The taboo of maintenance again.
