Two Men on Yaba Crash Pickup Truck After Fleeing Police Check Point: Nakhon Ratchasima

In a police chase on October 4th, two men high on methamphetamine fled a drug checkpoint, leading to a pursuit that ended with a crash and their arrest. The incident began when officers from Bua Lai Police Station in Nakhon Ratchasima set up a drug interception checkpoint on National Highway 2 (Mittraphap Road) near the border between Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima.

 

At approximately 16:30 a speeding grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, registered in Saraburi province, approached the checkpoint. When officers signaled for the driver to slow down and stop for a search, the vehicle accelerated and broke through the checkpoint, entering Nakhon Ratchasima. Police pursued the fleeing vehicle for more than 7 kilometres.

 

 

During the chase, the pickup truck sideswiped two vehicles waiting at a red light near Nong Waeng intersection, causing significant damage. The fleeing vehicle’s radiator was damaged in the collision, and officers were able to stop the truck by shooting out its tyres.

 

The driver, later identified as 36-year-old Mr. Ton, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but slipped and fell, hitting his head and then running along a canal before falling in. He, along with his passenger, 37-year-old Mr. Keng, were surrounded and apprehended by the police.

 

Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 10 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of marijuana. Police revealed that both suspects had outstanding warrants from Nong Khai province. Initial drug tests confirmed that both men tested positive for methamphetamine.

 

Police Lieutenant Colonel Paitoon Onkham, Deputy Chief of Bua Lai Police Station, stated that the suspects likely fled due to fear of arrest for drug possession and use. Both men now face multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine), and reckless driving causing damage. Authorities are also urging the victims of the collision to come forward and file claims for damages.

 

The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation.
