An off-duty police volunteer, identified as 50-year-old Bunchai “Muek,” fatally shot his 41-year-old neighbour , Mr. Witthoon, during a heated confrontation. The shooting took place on the Phai Khwang irrigation canal road in Suphan Buri,  with Bunchai’s 9-year-old daughter present at the scene.

Police responded swiftly after receiving reports of the shooting and found Mr. Witthoon dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation, led by Police Lieutenant Kalsin Pakwiset, revealed a long-standing feud between the two men. Forensic officers and rescue personnel were also dispatched to the location.

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Jongrak, 63, shared through tears that her son and Bunchai had been at odds for some time, primarily over incidents involving Bunchai’s dog, which had attacked Mr. Witthoon on two occasions. Despite these encounters, Bunchai never took responsibility or compensated for the injuries. Mrs. Jongrak further disclosed that Bunchai had previously threatened to kill her son, although she never imagined he would follow through on such threats.

Eyewitnesses provided crucial details of the confrontation. Mr. Thawit, 54, described how Bunchai arrived on a blue Honda Wave motorcycle with his young daughter. After exchanging heated words, Mr. Witthoon approached Bunchai, asking, “What are you here for?” In response, Bunchai drew a gun and shot him once in the chest before calmly fleeing the scene with his daughter.

Earlier that day, the two men had already clashed, exchanging insults and escalating their dispute. The argument, according to witnesses, had worsened, leading Bunchai to return and carry out the shooting in front of his daughter.

Police quickly apprehended Bunchai at his home, located not far from the crime scene. A handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was found hidden in the house. During questioning, Bunchai admitted to the crime, explaining that the situation had escalated after a series of insults.

Bunchai, a community police volunteer, had a known history of alcohol abuse and involvement with drugs. Neighbours and relatives had expressed concerns about his behaviour, but few dared to confront him due to his intimidating and erratic actions.

The suspect now faces charges of premeditated murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and carrying a weapon in public without permission. He is being held for further legal proceedings.
