In a major operation against online gambling networks, officials from Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation’s Technology and Information Division conducted coordinated raids at 11 locations across Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, and Chonburi. The network allegedly hacked government websites to embed links to gambling platforms, impacting 23 agencies.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Khemchat, Director of the Technology and Information Division, confirmed the scale of the breach, noting that hundreds more government agencies may have been similarly targeted. Authorities are working to determine if these incidents are connected to the same network.

The raids focused on three main groups within the operation: the technical management team, network managers, and account handlers. The operation uncovered four primary gambling sites, involving over 20 billion baht in transactions, with more than 100 bank accounts and numerous digital currency accounts linked to the network.

No arrests have been made thus far. Instead, the investigation focused on gathering digital evidence to locate the gambling network’s base and track individuals involved, which are both Thai and Chinese nationals.

Police Colonel Natthakrit Phromchan, Director of the National Cyber Security Agency’s Infrastructure Division, reported that nearly 1,000 government agencies have been targeted by similar hacks in the past year. The gambling network exploited vulnerabilities to place backlinks, making gambling sites more visible on search engines like Google. Although no confidential data was compromised, this breach highlights significant weaknesses in the cybersecurity of government websites.

Authorities are now working closely with affected agencies to strengthen their systems and close security gaps, with plans to enhance both technological measures and personnel expertise to prevent future breaches.
