Hopefully Trump can follow Ron Pauls advice on how to decrease the deficit and keep inflation at a non insane level like the last four years This time around Trump wants a broad imposition of tariffs, an across the board general levy of 10%. Previous tariffs were on select industries. The conservative positioned Tax Foundation states that Trump has proposed significant tariff hikes as part of his presidential campaign; we estimate that if imposed, his proposed tariff increases would hike taxes by another $524 billion annually and shrink GDP by at least 0.8 percent, the capital stock by 0.7 percent, and employment by 684,000 full-time equivalent jobs.

I'm sorry your favorite target has left you, but I am not he. You, on the other hand, much like your oompa loompa hero, do not understand what tariffs are. They are a tax on Americans. Period. You are distracting from the fact that you claim Trump should follow Ron Paul because you claim to be a libertarian, while also claiming we should have tariffs to save the auto industry. These are not libertarian positions. This is Ron Paul's position: Quote If we can’t compete then we have to say, ‘Why can’t we compete?' Trying to fix decades of mismanaged trade with tariffs is the wrong approach. A tariff can’t fix this. A tariff is a tax and the tax is on the people who live in the country who raises it. -Ron Paul You keep distracting, and I will keep pointing out how inept you are.

Every time I think I've seen the bottom limit of American depravity, I am unpleasantly surprised many people here are not MAGA but think that the way that the Dims and Kamala were going to run the country was worse not only for the U.S. but for the rest of the world. Trump uses tarrifs in many ways. Punish Mexico for all the drugs and illegals Slow down the Chinese take over. But mainly to ensure that when a company build something it is done with American steel. that Americans are eating food made in America. Part of his tarrif plan is also to reward companies that actually build in America. It is undisputable that at the outbreak of covid teh whole world got scrwed because you could not get a thermometer or any medical supplies. The reason being that they were all made in China, and China due to COVID-19 could not make enough. That was felt here as well as the U.S. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8441910/ What TRUMP wants to do is make the U.S. self sustaining as much as possible. In theory, it is a great idea. Consider that if Cina decided to invade Taiwan that the U.s. The machine would right now be screwed as they would not have the technical parts to do anything. Remember that the reason a lot of cars and computers and stuff could not be repaired was that China would not make enough chips.

I would say it was an effective campaign slogan and it's actually a good concept, but it's incredibly complicated, and he's trying to pretend as if it is very simple, which is very typical of his somewhat simple-minded thought process. For big companies changing manufacturing locations requires years, and is not something that can be done overnight without becoming a huge tax hike (tariffs) on the American population. Agreed it is complicated BUT at least it is a place to start and a plan that can be actioned. The Biden/Obama plan really did nothing to help the average American. If the U.S. started this and carried it on for a decade it could get back to a viable self sustaining country. However selling farm land to Chinese or Japanese copanies is not going to do it. Having things made outside the country is not going to help the country. Considering that most military equipment requires computer chips, how long do you think the U.S. would last in a war if China cut them off?

Caught between a rock and a hard place as Australia is reliant on trade with both PRC and US. US had threatened to place tariffs on Australian imports (an US ally for 70+ years and fought alongside US in WW1 and WW11, Korea, Vietnam, and ME). Edited November 22, 20241 yr by simple1
