Chonburi police are investigating a shooting incident that left Sakda Nopasit, father of Chonburi District 2 MP for the Progressive Party (People’s Party) and former spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, critically injured.

On December 10, Pol. Lt. Thanap Thareethai, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Samet Police Station, received a report of a shooting at a rice porridge restaurant in Samet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi. The incident was immediately reported to Pol. Col. Thanapong Phoethi, Superintendent of Samet Police Station, who arrived at the scene with an investigative team and emergency responders from the Tri Khunatham Rescue Foundation.

At the rear parking lot of the restaurant, rescuers found 61-year-old Sakda Nopasit, a former secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and the father of Wanida Nopasit, Chonburi District 2 MP for the Progressive Party. Sakda sustained a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen, with the bullet exiting through his back.

Emergency responders provided initial treatment before rushing him to Chonburi Hospital. At the scene, police recovered several 9mm shell casings and unfired rounds scattered around, suggesting a possible gun malfunction.

According to Burapha Sakpramoon, a rescue team member, the victim was found lying on the ground in severe pain, with a gunshot wound above his navel.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the gunman fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Police are reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras and plan to question Sakda further once his condition stabilises.

Sakda Nopasit is a prominent figure in Thai politics, having served as the spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party and secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. He is the father of Wanida Nopasit, a Progressive Party MP for Chonburi District 2.

Authorities are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring the perpetrator is brought to justice.
