The current main culprit is Cambodia, it's a wonder the whole country hasn't melted itself back into the earth's mantle.

Well judging by what I saw in Kampot you do have a point here.

Nonstop burning of rubbish incl plastics, leaves, paper, trees trimmings all day every day.

You literally could not catch a clean breath in the 10 days I was visiting.

At least draught beers were 0.50 USD!

Another crop. Getting with the times. Progress. Creativity.

Thailand has legalised weed.... ...why not expand its production?

Seems a win win win.

Good to hear that Chiang Mai is clear.

I am incredulous that you lot blame rice farmers for burn off. Maybe Bkk’s incredible traffic is also responsible. Duh.

Yes. Clean air at any cost. Save the people. Stop lung disease.

Although, in principle, I agree, I think you live in lala land, you need ideas that will actually be possible to achieve, in Thailand.... as Thailand is not China, and there is little incentive for farmers to stop the practice.

thyen name some crops that would provide food and profit... you come up with a lot of words, but no real solutions.. do you even live in Thailand, because you come across as very ignorant, and naive.

Yes, I live here. Quinoa, barley, wheat grass, oats, fruits, hydroponic herbs, the list is endless. Growing rice or sugar is simply an admission that you are conventional, conservative, lacking creativity, don't care about the environmental or your neighbors and haven't considered any sort of progress.

and where's the market......there is no market in Thailand, or export, for most of what you mention, even fruit, there's already an abundant supply, the market is not limitless, in fact the opposite

If the poor air quality like this continues it could really start to affect tourism.

I already know of people who are now taking their holidays elsewhere due solely to the pollution. Unfortunately they are being replaced by people who are completely unaware of this issue.

I don't think people realize how bad it is until they get here and then it is too late, and even they  most probably don't notice. I walked around Hua Hin last night and the number of  older tourists sitting in the entertainment  areas  surrounded by dust and vehicle fumes, and puffing away on their cigarettes suggests they don't care.

The Indians and Chinese  probably think Thailand is great  because the air quality is better than what they are used to.

There's a been a  gray haze hanging over Hua Hin since New Years. I guess it's a gift from Bangkok that has blown down.

I was there in June and suffered from the pollution to the extent it took me 3 months to recover. Unfortunately I did not realize  the cause of the problem and so visited again over the new year with the idea of buying a house there. But again I was effective’s by what I  now know to be this terrible pollution, needless to say I shall not be visiting again.

I know what bad air quality is: I experienced 700+ (!) in India. The current air quality in Bangkok is about the same as always at this time of year, 125- 225.

After India, I had a blocked nose for 2 months until I started using nasal irrigation. At the milder Bangkok conditions, my nose just feels slightly uncomfortable at times.

It makes no sense to shut up shop for this routine level of pollution.
