I've lived here 20 years and see Thais urinating on the verge of (busy) roads every single day. Even more surprising is when they do this, despite there being a gas (petrol) station with clean and free to use toilets just 500m or 1km down the road.

Back to the situation here....no gas stations on Beach Rd these days. It's The Mall if it is still open, or the Beach!

Who wants to walk 2-3 km busting to pee when there is a polluted sea for 5 km! Nor would I say there are plenty of gas stations nearby... most are on Sukhumvit or pretty close to it. And you expect first time visitors to know this! Don't ever recall any on Beach Rd... used to be one near the Marina Mall on Second... I think it went years ago.
