Rubio Discusses Future of Gaza in Calls with Egyptian and Jordanian Leaders

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Egypt's Foreign Minister on Tuesday, emphasizing the necessity of preventing Hamas from governing Gaza again. "He (Rubio) also reinforced the importance of holding Hamas accountable," the State Department stated following the conversation. "The Secretary reiterated the importance of close cooperation to advance post-conflict planning to ensure Hamas can never govern Gaza or threaten Israel again."

The call came a day after Rubio spoke with Jordan's King Abdullah, with both discussions focusing on regional stability and future governance in Gaza. However, neither of the U.S. statements following the calls referenced remarks made by former President Donald Trump regarding the displacement of Palestinians. Trump had previously suggested that Egypt and Jordan should take in more Palestinians, a proposal that has been met with resistance from both nations.

The discussions underscore ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the crisis in Gaza while maintaining strong ties with key regional partners. Egypt and Jordan, both of which share borders with Israel and Palestine, play significant roles in the geopolitical landscape. The absence of any mention of Trump's comments in the official U.S. statements suggests a careful approach by the Biden administration in managing sensitive diplomatic relations amid heightened tensions.

Once again the US dog is wagged by the tail. When will US politicians learn that peace doesn't come by ignoring the locals and trying to impose solutions on them? Even Blair knew that when he negotiated an end to the Irish troubles.

The US has failed for decades to reach a solution for well known reasons, and as long as they think they can ignore the Palestinians they will keep failing, IMO.

Trump mentioned that the property in Gaza is “nice beachfront” land.

Trump and Netanyahu would like nothing better than to take over that land and develop it for themselves.

Nothing to do with “peace” so ever (Rubio)…

President Trump has since repeated his ethnic cleansing proposal.

He has repeated his plan for moving them on a temp or perm basis while Gaza gets rebuilt. Enough of your misinformation.

Hardly surprising, Jordan have been very clear on their view:

"Our position has always been clear to the necessity of the Palestinian people receiving their rights, and that the two-state solution is the only path forward," Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said.

While Egypt responded:

After Trump first floated the idea, Egypt rejected the forced displacement of Gazans, expressing its "continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land".
