Kerryd
I saw some canned black olives in Friendship yesterday. They were on the "specials" rack over by where the fresh bread/buns are located (between the bread display and the aisle where the cans of tuna are). Didn't look at the brand/price though. fosco
All of these are tinned olives, probably been stored in the sun and most that I have tried are rancid. fit only for lamp oil. What I would love to find are the fresh deli type olives, taste before you buy. wishful thinking I guess.
Humphrey Bear
Ahhhh .... Barrels full of black and green olives; heimische cucumbers; new greens; roll-mops; pickles. Go into Taffgoods (Berwick Street, W1) and buy a couple of bagels, a couple of roll-mops, a heimische cu and a handful of olives - a meal fit for a king. Nowadays the kids have sweets and McDonalds. When rationing ended sixty years ago I had Taffles deli to go to. Closed now because it's method of selling was 'unhygienic'. Couldn't change with the times and put in fancy stainless steel and glass and prevent us kids sticking our grubby paws in the barrels. Doubt if the olives would travel well without being canned.
