In a shocking incident that has gripped the peaceful community of Chumphon province, an 87-year-old monk has been arrested for the violent stabbing of a 94-year-old abbot, resulting in the latter's death. The tragic event unfolded at around 7:30 PM yesterday at a temple in the Mueang district, leaving residents stunned.

The disturbing attack took place on the concrete road leading to the temple, where a pool of blood marked the scene. The severely injured abbot, suffering from deep knife wounds to his face, arms, and head, was rushed to Chumphon Khet Udomsak Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The suspect, a monk residing at the temple, awaited authorities in his residence, exhibiting no intention to escape. After being taken into custody, and subsequently disrobed, he disclosed to police that long-standing tension had been building between himself and the abbot. The monk detailed how an insult from the abbot, as he was trimming plants with a sickle, triggered a sudden outburst of rage, prompting the fatal attack.

Authorities were alerted by local residents, who quickly called emergency services to attend to the abbot and notify police. Residents, who have long revered the monk for his humble and unassuming nature, were shocked by the incident. They spoke of mutual respect and admiration for the monk, whose dwelling at the temple's entrance had drawn visitors more than the secluded area of the abbot, possibly leading to underlying tensions.

Recent plans by the abbot to construct a new dwelling adjacent to that of the monk's were perceived by some as a further sign of pressure on the elderly monk, although this plan had not yet come to fruition before the tragic events unfolded. Both the community and police continue to process the shock of such a violent act in a place dedicated to peace and contemplation, reported The Thaiger.

So sad that at this grand age they still act without wisdom.

Thai way of life. Many, many of these old monks without family ties, live at the expense of generosity and donors in the Temples, when they should really be in psychiatric hospitals... IMO
