Offshore Banking Question

Featured Replies

I've been browsing various offshore options (mainly in the Isle of Man) and I'm a bit confused about the currency options. Sterling pounds gives by far the best interest, so what I want to know is, do I need a sterling account in the UK to open a sterling offshore account?

If not, can I send the funds from here in Thailand, and then have withdrawals sent (swift) to a bank in my home country (Ire)?

If anyone could shed some light on the situation for me, It'd be much appreciated.

Thanks

Each bank's requirements will vary, but generally you should be able to remit funds for opening an account in the Isle of Man from anywhere.

Kinter, I suggest you contact your nominated bank & request advice directly from them.

I have an offshore Sterling account in Jersey, which was initially opened with funds from my UK bank. It wasn't a requisite but it did make things much easier. Transferring funds to & from a Thai bank (Bangkok Bank) has not proven to be problematic, however I chose a head office branch rather than a smaller sub-office.

Thanks for the advice. I guess it's best to contact the bank next, but good to hear that it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
