In a tense standoff, a 28-year-old woman with a history of psychiatric issues took her 3-year-old daughter hostage and attacked her own mother in Sisaket’s Mueang district. Quick-thinking emergency services intervened, securing Wannakarn Landa and bringing her to a hospital for critical care.

Responding swiftly to the call from Ban Chan, Sam subdistrict, officers from Mueang Sisaket Provincial Police Station and Sawangjit Sisaket Dhammasathan rescue workers found Wannakarn in distress. Despite her resistance and insistence on staying home with her daughter, police managed to calm the situation after about 10 minutes and take her into custody.

Wannakarn’s mother, 55-year-old Phen Landa, detailed her daughter's ongoing mental health struggles. Wannakarn had previously lived in Bangkok, where her spending habits reportedly spiraled into the use of methamphetamine, likely worsening her condition. Despite having undergone several treatments, Wannakarn's mental health has remained unstable.

The incident unfolded when Wannakarn unexpectedly attacked Phen from behind while she was having a meal, raising alarms about the potential for future violence. Concerned for her granddaughter's safety, Phen decided to notify the police, explaining that Wannakarn had not taken her psychiatric medication for months.

Phen expressed her willingness to cover any costs necessary to ensure Wannakarn receives long-term treatment until she stabilizes. The authorities have since transported Wannakarn to Sisaket Hospital for further psychiatric care, reported The Thaiger.
