you're probably right.

but younger generations may also need to give up the obsession with owning.

the world is changing, and people who are fixed in their ways and think everything should be like "the good ol' days" might be frustrated.

The world is changing due to wealth inequity. Something is wrong when billionaires pay less tax than a janitor.

Effectively, the Boomer generation is saying we're alright Jack, tough luck about you.

Why do you vote for these bad politicians then?

It's not that simple.

Of course the billionaires will always exist. And there might be the world's first trillionaire at some point.

They do have the capacity to make all our lives miserable, I suppose. Anything could happen.

But there is another way of looking at it.

If AI replaces human labor and the elites keep human beings afloat, then people will no longer need to work. And people will no longer need to spend 80% of their waking lives earning money in the drudgery of work or worried about how to pay the bills like we all have been our entire lives.

So fewer people may own McMansions than in the past, but neither will they need to work 80 hours a week their whole lives.

And if people are not working and worrying about paying bills, then what will people be doing?

One can envision a future world where the average human being is much different in their way of thinking than the average person today. Not only will the world change, but people will change a lot, I am guessing.

All people have the basic needs of food and shelter. The rest are wants.

Ownership of shelter is an aspiration of anyone. Without it, one is at the mercy of market forces.

There is a housing affordability crisis in Australia. There is also a rental affordability crisis. People on any form of pension or welfare who don't own the roof over their head are paying out 80% of their income in rent.

How would you like to be in that situation?

well, that's one type of problem that needs to be addressed.

again, the hope is that most people are not worried about not having enough to pay bills for basic needs in the future.
