Father's Final Act: Suicide Over Decade of Hidden Abuse

In a shocking turn of events in Chum Phon, Thailand, a father took his own life on February 24 at a durian plantation, avoiding looming legal repercussions for a decade-long sexual abuse case. The case surfaced when his 15-year-old daughter, called Ice, courageously sought help after enduring years of abuse.

 

Ice's boyfriend, Aum, was pivotal in bringing her distressing situation to light. Aum alerted the community leader about the assaults carried out by Ice's father, 34-year-old Anusorn, since she was only 11. Despite previously informing family members, Ice found no support until she confided in Aum.

 

The community leader investigated and verified the claims, attempting to confront Anusorn, who subsequently locked himself in a room before fleeing. Authorities from a children and family shelter intervened, helping Ice and her mother safely file a complaint at Phato Police Station.

 

 

Ice's mother, while affirming her daughter's story, refrained from commenting further, expressing the emotional turmoil that prohibited her from returning home.

 

Under Thai law, Anusorn faced severe penalties, including up to life imprisonment, for sexual crimes against a minor. However, he circumvented justice by committing suicide. His body was discovered hanging from a durian tree at the plantation, marking a tragic end to the harrowing ordeal.

 

Ice is now under official protection to ensure her safety and well-being, reported The Thaiger.
