U.S. Dollar based expats beware -- Trump goal is to weaken the dollar

Recommended Posts

I'll start this out with this link, but I have recently seen the same news in multiple credible sources so I believe it.

Obviously this could have a major negative impact on dollar based expats as well as many businesses globally (where the impacts might be good or bad depending).

It seems the only question is whether Trump succeeds in his dollar weakening goal and by how much.

Please feel welcome to post additional news stories related to this topic and of course to discuss it.

The intent here really isn't whether a weaker dollar is good or bad for the U.S. economy or eveb if Trump is right or wrong in wanting it.

That's academic.

This is an expat forum so the main focus should be impact on expats.

For it should have little effect.  This year I’m switching my retirement extension based on income to having 800k in the bank.  This was already planned.  Now I can keep my social security money in the US to pay my US based expenses.  Here in Thailand we have rental properties.  The rents cover our basic expenses here.

We were lucky because we brought money over here when the dollar was stronger and used it to by our rentals.

Well I can see in your case you have  good hedges against a devalued dollar.

But it's obvious for many typical expats expecially retirees that remit their dollars annually for living expenses in Thailand a significant dollar decline would be a big hit.

Keeping on the theme of WARNING expats that changes might be happening, this video suggests that MASSIVE changes might happen related to radical dollar weakening, that if they did, would blow a significant number of dollar based expats out of the water.

Remember, Trump as he has already proven on many fronts, is very much into blowing things up in a big way.

I know this video might sounds sensational and I will be accused of fear mongering, but personally I trust the source for stock market advice. I followed his specific advice before to my benefit.

I'm not saying and he's not saying either that this massive blow up WILL happen. But it would be silly to be sure that it won't happen.

People thinking this topic is about Trump good or Trump bad are totally missing the point.

Please take that noise to the POLITICS forum.

Looks to be about the USD which depends on government policy.

This is kind of old news - I heard this a couple of months ago - I don't worry too much about it. How many things that he wants is he successful at? And there is nothing I can do anyway...

Nice try. The inflation is all on dems

Anything that DT considers bad is because of the Dems.  Even Ted Cruz can figure that out.

Gosh.  Last week, the lefties claimed Trump was going to cancel Social Security for expats.

Do they ever get it right?

No. The technique is to raise a half or quarter truth into a berserk spittlefrothing stream of lying hate invective.

No, its just fear mongering from the person who holds the records for the most lies, hate and invective on this Forum.

If he does hold such a record, it is a remarkable achievement given the competition from what might be termed the "other side of the fence"!

If the American dollar gets weaker, my Australian dollar gets stronger.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

I never thought I would see the day when I would thank Trump for something.

Trumps goal is to cut federal spending to the minimum to justify tax cuts for the billionaires. Anyone dying is just eliminating unprofitable staff. We can't have kindergarteners not working for their keep.

So you are blaming Magas for Biden's inflation now? :shock1:

One week the left says inflation will go up. The next the USD will collapse. The two are related and only 1 might occur. Have a community meeting over decaf lattes and decide on which story you want to run with.

I think that the favourite American phrase is "collateral damage".

That is correct. I don't agree with Jing on a lot of stuff, but here?  He's 100% correct. That is Trump's stated policy in order to balance the trade deficits.
A weakened dollar promotes exports.  If you don't understand, study economics.  Or ask your favorite AI to explain it too you.

Why are you whingeing? Your hero Biden lost due to inflation and borders.

I know that most of your posts could be described as an " area weapon" but you are so far off target it defies description!

As I said, "extraordinary"!
