This past weekend a thai family I know, who are working in bangkok at the moment, went back to the local province to take part in local elections. When they went in to vote on sunday ( father , mother and 2 daughters ) the local official told them the voting register had been re-organised and only the father was on the voting register. The son was not able to attend as he had work commitments, but he too had been struck off the roll. I had asked about postal voting before they left as I realised that this was a financial burden on them to travel all the way back to their home province, and also an interuption to paying work, but was told no postal voting in thailand.

it occurred to me that there must be thousands of voters in thailand who cannot afford to go back to vote in what ever elections are on so are basically disinfranchised.

is the election system in thailand geared towards the rich?

That is to be sure. Only the rich can afford to buy votes.

Your friends were probably removed because the Kamnan could not control how they would vote.
