In a bold nod to Cambodia’s growing tourism ambitions, German travel giant TUI BLUE officially opened its five-star hotel in Sihanoukville on 5 May, ushering in a new era of upscale hospitality in the coastal city.

Standing 17 storeys tall in the heart of Preah Sihanouk Province, the TUI BLUE Sihanoukville boasts nearly 200 rooms, complete with a pool, conference facilities, and a grand ballroom. The inauguration was attended by Minister of Tourism Huot Hak and Provincial Governor Mang Sineth, marking the occasion as a significant milestone in Cambodia’s hotel and tourism industry.

Artur Gerber, CEO of TUI BLUE Hotels, said this was the first of several planned investments in the country. “Cambodia’s tourism and cultural appeal, coupled with strong government support, has created fertile ground for sustainable growth,” he noted, adding that the company is optimistic about long-term engagement in the region.

Governor Mang Sineth hailed the hotel’s opening as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. “It strengthens our province’s appeal, generates employment, and supports national goals of improving livelihoods and reducing poverty,” he said.

Minister Huot Hak praised the investment, citing Cambodia’s stability, peace, and tourism potential as key reasons for the German firm’s commitment. He reiterated the government’s continued encouragement for international investment in the sector.

TUI BLUE, part of the TUI Group, operates over 400 properties globally under more than 10 brands, catering to a wide range of travellers. The Sihanoukville launch signals the company’s strategic push into Southeast Asia—and into a market keen to blend cultural heritage with modern luxury.

The hotel’s arrival is seen not just as a boost to the local economy, but also as a symbol of Sihanoukville’s transformation from a sleepy port town into a burgeoning international destination.

Will TUI’s gamble on Cambodia pay off? For now, the red carpet has been rolled out—and the rooms are ready.
