Accident Husband and Wife Killed as Tree Crushes Pickup Truck, 16-Year-Old Daughter Survives

A devastating incident in Mukdahan claimed the lives of a husband and wife on the morning of 26 May, when a large tree fell onto their vehicle, crushing it beyond recognition. Miraculously, their 16-year-old daughter, seated in the back of the pickup truck, survived the ordeal with minor injuries.

 

Police from Nikhom Kham Soi Station were alerted to the incident, which occurred on the road between Ban Nong Nok Khian and Chokchai Subdistrict, directly in front of Phu Lom Khum Temple in Nong Nok Khian Village, Rom Klao Subdistrict.

 

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and discovered a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck, registration from Mukdahan, with the cabin completely crushed and windows shattered. The bodies of the male driver, Mr Supot, 54 and his wife, Mrs Thonglek, 49, were found trapped in the front seats. Their daughter, who was sitting in the rear cabin, sustained only minor injuries.

 

Emergency responders used hydraulic rescue equipment to extract the victims from the wreckage and rushed the injured teenager to Nikhom Kham Soi Hospital for treatment. Authorities also worked to clear the massive fallen tree from the road to restore traffic flow and prevent further incidents.

 

According to police investigations, the family had set off early in the morning to visit a sick relative at the district hospital. It is believed that the tree toppled over suddenly due to saturated soil conditions following overnight rain. The tree struck the front section of the vehicle directly, leaving the parents with no chance of survival.

 

A witness, who was first on the scene, reported seeing the fallen tree moments before discovering the wreckage. “I was driving home when I saw the tree had come down across the road. I ran over to check and saw the front of the vehicle had been completely flattened. The young girl in the back was conscious but shocked,” he said.

 

Authorities suspect that the tree collapsed due to heavy and persistent rainfall throughout the night, which caused the soil to soften.
