If you've had any experience, good or bad, with acupuncture or physiotherapy in Mukdahan/That Phanom/Nakhon Phanom, I'd like to hear about it. I have a trapped nerve in my neck causing me left shoulder/arm pain. I am looking for private treatment as I could die of old age waiting in a government hospital.

If you can help with a recommendation, I'll be grateful.

I had acupuncture from a highly trained Western professional. I could not believe it, but boy does it work. You really notice the difference.

I've had effective treatment too, back in Europe, so I'm hoping to find someone here.

I had a pinched nerve in my shoulder a while back. Could barely raise my arm.

Heat compresses did the trick for me.

This gives some temporary relief, but I'm hoping to get more lasting treatment.

Thanks for your replies. Anyone with any experience of acupuncture/physio in Thailand, specifically the area between Muk and Nak?

Yes, that's the drawback with acupuncture, it does provide relief, but it is temporary.

All treatments are

I've relied on acupuncture for many years. (My first acupuncture treatment was over 55 years ago!)

When combined with proper diagnosis (and that IS very important for good results,) acupuncture has completely fixed my problems.

That said, I also use Western medicine for some problems, too.

Chinese medicine is effective in many areas... but not all.  I've found it most beneficial (for me) for problems related to movement, i.e., joint and muscle pain (so you're in luck!) and general energy levels.
Sorry, but I'm up north and can only refer you to the clinics I've used here. If you want that info, just ask. 🙂

I finally got through the paperwork to visit the physio department of my local hospital. It's a small town, the hospital isn't on a par with big town facilities, so I was surprised to find them using a technology unknown to me - Electro-Magnetic Pulse Therapy. I'd expected a few gentle manipulations and a hot compress, with some advice on follow-up exercises at home. I got the hot and heavy compress treatment, twenty minutes front and back, and then twenty minutes with the machine, which looks like a large shower head attached to a mysterious white box on castors. They pass this "shower head" over you back without any pressure, like ironing a sheet or something, and you feel these very pleasurable pulses, at varying speeds and force, working on your muscles and nerves in an entirely different way to massage (which has never suited me). I could feel the tingle go down my arm and twitch my fingers. Result - although it felt good, it didn't seem to have much effect until several hours later, when the pain left me. I have booked a course of this treatment, twice a week for five weeks, and it may be that I don't need it this long. 500 baht a session, but for the effect it's had so far it's an absolute bargain - you'd pay that for some masseuse going through the motions while she thinks about what she's going to have for lunch.

So there you go - came here asking for advice and ended up giving it!
