Officers from the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Subdivision for Women and Children Protection (DS Division), Operation Unit 4, arrested a 27-year-old man in Pathum Thani for allegedly trading in illegal firearms online.

Acting under the direction of Pol. Col. Santi Kornkasem, with the support of Deputy Commanders Pol. Lt. Col. Piyarat Wessakosol, Pol. Lt. Col. Woraprat Wutthirak, and Pol. Lt. Col. Marodom Khwanmuang, the team led by Pol. Lt. Col. Rachata Phumpanmuang conducted a sting operation that led to the arrest of Mr. Khattiya Jitrat at a rented house in Thanyaburi District.

The arrest followed an undercover purchase of an M4A1 rifle with ammunition for 95,000 baht via Facebook. Upon arranging the deal, officers launched an investigation and tracked the suspect to his residence. Police then presented a search warrant, leading to the discovery of a large cache of firearms and ammunition hidden on the second floor of the house.

Seized items included three assault rifles, 11 handguns, both modified and blank-firing, over 450 rounds of ammunition and numerous weapon assembly parts. Mr. Khattiya admitted to ordering firearm components online and assembling the weapons himself. He claimed this was his first attempt at selling the weapons.

He now faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as unlicensed sale and distribution of the same. The suspect and all seized evidence have been handed over to Thanyaburi Police Station for further legal proceedings.
