Putin’s Workforce is in Crisis: Kremlin to Import 1 Million Indian Workers

Featured Replies

To stop its economy from collapsing, the Kremlin has struck a quiet deal with New Delhi to import around one million Indian workers.

These laborers will help fill critical roles in Russia’s factories and defense sectors, particularly in regions like Sverdlovsk in the Urals.

The Sverdlovsk region, home to tank manufacturer Uralvagonzavod and the Uralmash engineering plant, is a backbone of Russia’s military-industrial complex. A new Indian consulate is opening in Yekaterinburg to facilitate the influx of workers.

A more accurate heading would be Russia in crisis, but ....

With all the Russian "tourists" overseas, maybe Putin's crisis has been caused by sending workers to the Russian front to die, while other Russians are using any excuse to go overseas for a long holiday.

This proves the precise opposite. There is a big demand for labor in Russia. Which is the case for expanding economies. Russia is second to only the US for the number of economic migrants moving in.

Contracting economies always show an outflow of workers. Not an inflow.

It cost money to go on holidays. Especially extended ones.

So your narrative doesn't make sense.

Wow. Do you actually believe that anyone with some semblance of common sense is going to accept that explanation?

Russia is now structured as a war economy. Its investments are going to war material production. The asian and outer region Russians who used to do the labor and work in the mines, are conscripted or have enlisted for better pay. Many are dead, and more are no longer able to work because they are missing body parts or their sanity.  Russian fatalities and casualties have been extraordinary. Russia will likely hit the 1 million casualty mark in the summer of 2025—a stunning and grisly milestone. Overall, a high of 250,000 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine, with over 950,000 total Russian casualties    https://www.csis.org/analysis/russias-battlefield-woes-ukraine   These are the young males who are the critical cog in  Russia's production economy. you can't take out  1 million people and avoid a direct impact. Even the loss of 50,000 workers  has an impact.

India has just proven once again that it is not a nation worthy of the preferential treatment it receives from western countries. India claims to be unaligned and neutral but has made sure to take advantage of the cheap Russian oil flooding the market, and now it  will profit from sending its poor to Russia to work under poor conditions. The next time  India  has a conflict with pakistan and China, the west should stay out of the mess and let the Indians deal with it.

Russians in the regions are inherently racist. It is a society with few outsiders. The presence of Indians and their dietary and hygiene habits will clash with the Russian culture. Nor will the Indians readily adapt to the very harsh Russian climate.

Russia was the 2nd most immigrated to country long before the war.

According to UN Population Division estimates, as of 2013,  the Russian Federation was second only to the United States in the sheer number of immigrants. This is a fact that continues to elude many Americans as, justifiably or not, Russia is commonly thought of as a place to leave rather than a place to which to move. And while it’s true that Russian citizens are emigrating in increasing numbers in recent years (a phenomenon that has been compared to the brain drain of the early 1990s), significantly larger flows of immigrants from the former Soviet Union have been entering Russia for the last twenty years.

Seriously, please think before you offer this type of argument. The influx of people to Russia was attributable to ethnic Russians leaving the former Soviet Republics. As those countries gained their breathing room, the Russians who had benefited from  their ethnic status, could no longer do so.  They returned to their "homeland".  It spiked with the  onset of the war with the Ukraine as ethnic Russians fled the war zones. As the ethnic Russians in Ukraine did not have the skills or wealth to go elsewhere, they went to Russia.  Russia is not attracting the educated, or the skilled workers from non Russian nations. No one is rushing to Russia now.

Nope. My link was about 2013

Before the current war that started in 2014. Not 1993. Most of the x Soviet ppl from the outside countries now love to Russia for work and send the money home. Most of these countries have failed to do anything productive with their "independence".

My link simply proves it.
