In an urgent appeal, more than 180,000 Thai civilians evacuated to shelters near the Cambodian border have been advised to await official clearance before returning home. This comes amidst ongoing uncertainties in the region.

Interior Permanent Secretary Unsit Sampuntharat revealed that 188,734 evacuees are currently housed in 770 shelters across seven provinces. The distribution is as follows:

  • Si Sa Ket: 82,021 people in 435 shelters
  • Surin: 55,898 people in 130 shelters
  • Buri Ram: 24,480 people in 112 shelters
  • Ubon Ratchathani: 21,838 people in 68 shelters
  • Sa Kaeo: 2,656 people in 13 shelters
  • Trat: 1,621 people in eight shelters
  • Chanthaburi: 224 people in four shelters

Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has instructed provincial governors to ensure that evacuees remain informed of the situation’s developments. He stressed that people should remain in the shelters until authorities confirm that it is safe to return.

Mr. Unsit assured that evacuees are being provided with adequate food, drinking water, and essential supplies. Donation centres in other provinces are actively coordinating support efforts to maintain these provisions.

He highlighted, “Once we receive confirmation from the security bureau that it is safe, the government will facilitate the return of our people to their homes.”

This precautionary measure underscores the gravity of the situation as authorities prioritise safety and well-being. The community's resilience is evident, with individuals relying on local and national support networks during this challenging time. The continued efforts to coordinate aid and information reflect a robust response to ensure stability for affected families.

Financial and logistical support remains critical, with local authorities working tirelessly to ensure that the needs of evacuees are met. Those interested in supporting can contribute through local donation centres, extending a hand of compassion during a period of regional tension.

For now, patience and cooperation remain crucial as authorities work to resolve the situation effectively. The government is committed to securing the affected areas and providing timely updates to all concerned.
