Thailand Unites: Flags Fly High Amid Border Tensions

In a powerful display of national solidarity, business operators across Thailand have showcased the national flag on their buildings to uplift the spirits of soldiers stationed at the Thai-Cambodian border. This gesture comes amid ongoing clashes despite a recent ceasefire agreement.

Prominent retail centres like Siam Piwat's Siam Center, Siam Paragon, and ICONSIAM have transformed their LED screens to feature the Thai flag. At the bustling fountain square linking Siam Center and Siam Paragon, a grand LED display cycles the flag every five to ten minutes, becoming a focal point for countless passers-by who pause to capture the moment.

The flag's presence extends beyond malls. Along the Chao Phraya River, the immense ICONSIAM sign is a beacon for river commuters, inviting them to photograph its vibrant colours. Moreover, Baiyoke Tower II, one of Thailand's tallest buildings, prominently displays the flag atop its rooftop screens, while the Pearl Bangkok office building bathes itself in red, white, and blue light. The Rama VII Bridge also glows with these patriotic shades, a symbolic nod to unity.

Office buildings throughout Bangkok join in, draping facades with flags and themed lighting to boost morale and send a clear message of support to the troops on the frontlines.

In Pattaya, a popular tourist haven, the iconic sign near Bali Hai Pier mirrors this national sentiment, lighting up in the flag's colours. Shopping centres and offices nationwide have adopted similar displays, uniting the country in spirit with those bravely stationed at the border.

Despite the previous day’s ceasefire agreement brokered in Malaysia, violent confrontations resumed last night, continuing into this morning, some 29 July. A scheduled military dialogue, set for 7am today, has been postponed indefinitely as hostilities persist.

This collective effort by business operators and buildings across Thailand speaks volumes about the nation's resilience and determination to rally together during challenging times. It showcases a nation unified in support and hopeful for a peaceful resolution.

‘ASEAN was not about formal dispute settlement or conflict resolution per se, but rather about creating a regional milieu in which such problems either did not arise or could be readily managed and contained’

ASEAN is a "Pie in the Sky" creation.

Or the Stars & Stripes flying on all public and many private buildings in the USA?  I don't see a link between flying your country's flag and ultra-right wing facism.  In ultra left England flying the English flag is seen as right wing and racist.  How did England fall so far?  Note I said England and not Scotland or Wales; in those 2 countries their flags are a focus of pride.

So ridiculous.

I really would love to see Thailand without Cambodians,  Laotians and Burmese - i.e. without anybody who actually works.

Oh, I forgot,  Thais do the "knowledge work", like counting money,  devising 90-days reporting schemes and designing SAO buildings (in which the Cambodians die).

Do they think the more flags they will display the sooner the conflict will end? Opposite is true. This crisis was caused by narrowminded land grabbing nationalist mentality. More nationalism = more blood and dead soldiers in the future

Humans learn nothing from history. Even if we do - it is only for a short period of time (like it was with Europe after WW2).

If Thais are so proud of their country why do they throw their garbage out of car windows. In my travels I've been to 40 different countries and I've never seen litter dumped anywhere like it is in Thailand.

Tradition mostly !

Everyone is proud of their own country when they want to be.  Doesn’t stop them from mindless fighting at football matches and throwing cigarette butts out the window causing forest fires etc .  The worst hooligans profess keeping their country safe from immigrants. Nuff said.

Big brother trying to divert attention away from its own problems.

Are they really that stupid they think people buy this BS?

Cambodia has really done a disservice to itself and all the people on the border of both nations. The random shooting and shelling are in fact war crimes regardless of which side fired first. Both have been taking pot shots at each other for months over the border

Having said that I think it's so sorry for the people of the region because they have more in common with their brethren over the border than they do in the people in Bangkok.

Thais have been largely brainwashed to dislike and even hate Khmer. I think it's sad.

All this hype is borders Jingoism

The fact that the government is an absolute mess doesn't escape me
