Appling for a Spouse visa is not difficult but it is admittedly very time consuming, so one should allow a minimum of 3 weeks for preparing the application before submitting.

One needs to adopt a procedure, here is an example, it may be required to vary or add to suit your own circumstances.

1 Purchase the Partner visa package from VFS.

2 Read the documents including the booklet on Partner visas.

3 Applicant.- Make sure all Thai documents are available.

Sponsor - All your documents as required.

4 Engage a translation office to translate the Thai documents to English, they will

handle all other Thai legal aspects as required.

5 While the applicants Thai documents are being translated your spouse can apply for

her police certificate ( 14 days ) and the medical and x-ray from an approved hospital.

Alternatively the medical can be obtained later after the interview if successful.

6 After the police certificate has been received return to the translation office, make

sure all forms are filled in correctly. Retain 2 copies 1 for the applicant 1 for the

sponsor.

7 At the VFS office pay the visa fee by Thai bank cheque or cash in THB, pay the

courier fee, receipts will be issued. VFS will check to see that you have the basic

documents for initial processing.

Your application will be received at the Australian Embassy on the next working day.

8 Processing times are to be found on the Embassy website, allow 3 months as a

guide, it will depend on the complexity of the application.

There are no short cuts or queue jumping.

9 The success of the application will depend if the applicant and the sponsor have met

the criteria for the visa. DIAC must be satisfied that the relationship is genuine and is

ongoing ( this is one of the main reasons for a visa to be refused.)

DIAC uses The Migration Regulations 1994 and the Procedure Advice Manual to

determine this as well as an interview of the applicant as required.
