China Denies Drone Allegations in Thai-Cambodian Tensions

In a striking move, China has firmly refuted claims of supplying drones to Cambodia amid ongoing tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. Branding the allegations as “completely false,” the Chinese Embassy in Thailand issued a robust statement to clarify the situation.

The controversy began with viral photos that seemingly depicted Chinese drones gifted to Cambodia. However, Chinese officials have clarified that these images originate from a flight demonstration conducted in January, unconnected to the current regional tensions. The event, orchestrated by the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), took place in Cambodia early last year.

“After verification, it is found that the claim is false. The pictures used by the reports were taken during a flight demonstration event, which has no connection to the current situation,” the embassy stated.

The speculation that China provided drones to bolster Cambodia’s border operations has intensified concerns of foreign interference in this delicate regional standoff. Yet, China maintains that it remains neutral. Since the onset of the conflict along the Thai-Cambodian border, Beijing asserts it has diligently worked behind the scenes to alleviate tensions, with no intention of seeking political leverage.

“China does not seek any selfish gains on the matter. We support ASEAN in facilitating a political settlement, and we stand ready to maintain close communication with Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia to help restore peace and stability,” conveyed the embassy via their Facebook page.

The embassy’s Facebook post sparked a flurry of reactions. Some users lauded China for its non-interventionist approach, while others remained suspicious. “As I know, the Chinese government just gave money to Cambodia during the conflict,” wrote user Mac Sanchai. “Doing something in favour of one side is not an act of de-escalation.”

Conversely, another user, Plo O Nervana, expressed doubt over the drone allegations, stating, “I believe there aren’t any drones, but someone is trying to make it look like there are.”

Yet, many comments remained supportive, with remarks like Natha Malisorn’s, “China and Thailand are family, remember that.”

Beijing has reiterated its commitment to fostering regional peace through ASEAN-led initiatives, urging calm, dialogue, and a rapid return to stability. China's approach highlights its dedication to diplomacy and regional cooperation.

Amidst these tensions, the broader ASEAN community is watching closely, emphasising the importance of peaceful resolution and cooperative engagement. As the situation develops, all eyes remain on ASEAN's diplomatic efforts to ensure stability in the region.

With the stakes high, maintaining peace and fostering understanding among neighbouring countries is more crucial than ever. The ongoing dialogue among ASEAN members highlights the organisation’s vital role in managing regional complexities and fostering long-term peace and cooperation.

China denies everything on all topics (the floods in China are a good example), regardless of anything... all a lie on everything. You can't believe anything from those oppressive CCP commies... and if you say anything in China, then it's scrubbed and those posting arrested. Basically, if they shut something down and erase it on the internet, plus arrest everyone who dares to say anthing about anything, then it didn't happen and let's carry on as normal.

This reminds me of an old Asian trick.  I remember Dec 6, 1941.  Japanese peace delegates in Washington to say ... we want peace... then what ... Pearl Harbor the very next day.  You never know what's the truth.

Remember  the Tet Offensive was a cease fire!

TIC (This Is China). China is always denying everything!

Cambodia has long become an unofficial province of the PRC.

You are talking about the Chinese government, but  the British government is repressing criticism of it's policies, free speech and putting people in prison for online comments.🤔

We are not talking about the British government in this thread... we are talking about the CCP etc. If you have a problem with the UK government, then start a new thread. Such trolling nonsense and off topic... can't say what I want to on such a moronic response, as I'll get suspended.

Indeed. China had everything about to fall into their lap on every front... and Xi effed it up with his nonsense that harkens back to Mao. He has screwed it up so badly that most Chinese want the days of Hu Jintao to come back. Xi should have stepped down and let China quietly rise as it would be so powerful by now, but Xi screwed the pooch on it. You reap what you sow... and good for the West that this has happened as China is weakened greatly by Xi's rule.

You have already given a moronic response.

My comment was justified.

I was drawing attention to the similarities of British and Chinese politics.

You don't have to insult people to make your point.
