A dramatic fire broke out in the early hours of 12 August, completely destroying a large teak wood house owned by Mr. Somsak Wongluang, the 64-year-old mayor of Ban Pin Subdistrict Municipality, Phrae. The blaze caused damages estimated at 16 million baht.

At 01:35 police received the emergency call reporting the fire at house number 222/2, Moo 5, Ban Pin subdistrict, Long district, Phrae province. Deputy Investigation Officer Sgt. Adun Klaching promptly informed Police Superintendent Bamrung Nomsian and led a team to the scene.

Fire engines from Ban Pin Municipality, Huai O, Mae Lanna, the Ban Pin Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and neighbouring areas quickly responded and battled the flames for over two hours before bringing the fire under control.

At the time of the fire, Mr. Somsak was staying at a separate residence in his garden compound and no one was inside the burning house.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit, although forensic police are conducting a thorough examination to determine the exact cause.

Police have documented the scene, including taking photographs and are preparing a detailed report. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and coordinate with forensic experts to clarify the circumstances surrounding the fire.
