i bought a couple of thai dvd's that i watched while in thailand (subtitled) and cant seem to find the option to turn on english subtitles, can someone please write 'subtitles' or english subs' etc for me in thai so i can browse through the options to turn them on

All of Thai movie DVDs sold in Thailand do not have English subtitle due to the zone copyright policy... They don't want the illegal version to spread abroad before those movies're released in other countries.

That isn't entirely correct. Some of them sold legally have titles, some don't. The packaging tells you clearly. The ones that do are probably the international version, but I have bought some of those here from totally legit retail stores.
