The FBI descended on the home and office of Donald Trump's former US president adviser John Bolton on Friday, targeting him in a classified documents investigation. The high-stakes action follows Bolton’s public fallout with Trump since his 2019 exit from the administration. Agents were spotted hauling boxes from the Bethesda, Maryland, property and the Washington DC office.

Bolton, known for his fierce criticism of Trump in his 2020 memoir, has yet to make a statement and faces no criminal charges. Trump dismissed Bolton as a "sleazebag," denying any direct involvement in the probeVice President JD Vance confirmed that the investigation focusses on classified material and insisted it is free from political bias.s.

The FBI has remained tight-lipped but described the search as “authorised activity”. Eyewitnesses reported police presence and FBI personnel entering Bolton’s residence and office, stoking speculation about what the agents discovered.

Bolton, who served as the UN ambassador under George W Bush, clashed with Trump over foreign policy, particularly military intervention. His 2020 book, The Room Where it Happened, accused Trump of being “unfit to be president”, raising eyebrows for possibly divulging classified information, though a lawsuit was later dropped, according to the BBC.

FBI Director Kash Patel cryptically tweeted, “no one is above the law,” while Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed the sentiment, emphasising the non-negotiability of America’s safety. Their statements suggest a serious pursuit of justice in the eyes of federal authorities.

Amidst the drama, Bolton returned home but avoided reporters’ questions, leaving many unanswered. His Secret Service protection, removed by Trump, highlights the strain in their relationship. As the investigation unfolds, tension builds over Bolton’s alleged mishandling of sensitive information.

Trump adversaries are no strangers to scrutiny post-administration. Notable figures like New York Attorney General Letitia James and Democratic Senator Adam Schiff have encountered investigations, fuelling political intrigue as the US political landscape remains charged and polarised.

The Bolton saga, marked by public spats and legal tangles, continues to develop, closely watched by political allies and foes alike. The implications of the FBI probe into classified documents could ripple through political circles, leaving the nation on edge over potential revelations.
