Alcohol Free Tonight?

Featured Replies

I understand that today being a special day that the pubs with music are closed and no alcohol will be served - at least here in Nakhon Sawan.

So all you thirsty devils out there might have to do without your tipple tonight :o

at least you can go eat food in the restaurant and drink water :D

news of this has'nt hit samui as the bars are open ,hav'nt received the letter from the police to say were closed .....

Can anyone confirm this for Bkk? Im thinking of going out tonight...

it's a law prohibiting sell of alcohol to the public - whether it's stricly enforced depends on the locality. In Bangkok and bigger towns it's obeyed, but in the smaller places nobody cares that much

Ok thanks but my mate called me earlier saying he was at some bar in siam paragorn drinking a g &t...well Im off out either way :o

Yeah... really big impact this no party / no alcohol thing out in the boonies in Chiang Mai...

(Shots taken earlier tonight.)

Or do as I do: keep some stock in the fridge ALL year round.

Business generally as usual in Surin yesterday.

Reminds me to keep some canned dancing girls in the fridge.

My worst experience of the "khai mai dai" rule was setting off on one of those night time boat / dinner cruises along the chao phraya. Within 2 mins of the boat leaving the dock my GF started an almighty argument about something from the past and I just thought to myself - never mind, it's only 2 hours and I can get quietly pickled for the duration !

WRONG !

"Sorry Sir, no can sell alkohon, tomorrow election". Sweet I thought (well as a farang you don't want a cloudy head for an election the following day that you are not allowed to vote in anyway now do you ?) and stared bleakly out into the distance.

However, I spied a group of Thai men covertly pouring some JW Black into glasses while the staff were clinking ice into their glasses for them. Somewhat confused and peeved i called over the waitress and asked her why they were getting the preferential treatment. naturally she had no answer and I demanded alcohol (Gad-dammit !)

In the end we came to an agreement. She would serve me beer only and empty the bottles into a metal pale (like the sangsom buckets) where I was also provided with a straw. GENIUS !

naturally this pissed off my GF even more but it didn't matter a ###### to me as long as the bucket kept getting refilled !

Did I mention I am Scots ?

:o
