Although I have no intention of visiting the USA in the near future I have just retrieved an old British passport with a US visa dated 1982 allowing multiple entries and no expiry date (Indefinitely).

Not sure what the status of British citizens applying for a visa is nowadays but I am just curious to know if this visa (in an old passport) would still be valid or have circumstances since changed, particularly with all the security problems these days.

Hmmm, interesting.  Want to bet a plane ticket on it?

It was fairly common 10+ years ago to issue those indefinite U.S. visas.  But beginning about 10 years ago when such arrived at a U.S. port of entry, the visitor was allowed in, but the visa was in effect cancelled by U.S. Immigration.  It was validated on the spot to 10 years from the date of issuance.

I know several Thai folks who had this happen to their indefinite visas.  A bit of a come down for them.

So according to precedence, you "should" be allowed in, but I'd not bet on it.

It's a moot question. Holders of UK machine readable passports are allowed visa exempt entry into the US.
