Israeli Tanks Roll into Gaza City: Panic and Displacement Surge

Israeli tanks and military vehicles have entered a major residential district in Gaza City, marking the second day of Israel's ground offensive. Residents and eyewitnesses have reported the presence of dozens of tanks in Sheikh Radwan, a dense neighbourhood in northern Gaza. Artillery shells and smoke bombs are being used as the military advances, causing thick clouds of smoke.

The offensive aims to free hostages held by Hamas and conquer what Israel describes as a "last stronghold" of up to 3,000 fighters. However, this operation has led to international criticism, with aid groups highlighting the resulting humanitarian crisis. Sheikh Radwan, once bustling with thousands, is now under attack after previously suffering heavy airstrikes.

Local residents, like Saad Hamada, shared their experiences of fleeing due to the unlivable conditions caused by drone strikes. The Israeli military's control of the area could pave the way for further advances into central Gaza. Panic grips the remaining residents as memories of past destruction resurface, prompting another wave of displacement towards the relatively safer south.

The area, once vibrant with schools and markets, now sees increased devastation with the presence of tanks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have struck over 150 targets in recent days, using remotely controlled military vehicles loaded with explosives against Hamas. Witnesses describe the relentless explosions as daunting, with continued violence forcing civilians to flee in desperation.

Aid and UN agencies report overcrowding in the designated "humanitarian area" in the south, leaving evacuees with nowhere to go. Despite leaflets urging evacuation, many find no refuge and reluctantly return north. The scale of displacement is massive, with estimates suggesting hundreds of thousands have fled, but many remain trapped.

This incursion comes as part of Israel's broader response to the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack, which resulted in significant casualties and hostages. Gaza's health ministry reports tens of thousands killed since, with a significant portion being women and children. Recent intensification raises fears of deepening humanitarian crises as the UN raises alarms over potential catastrophe.

Key Takeaways:

  • Israeli tanks have entered Sheikh Radwan, intensifying the ground offensive in Gaza City.
  • The operation aims to dismantle Hamas strongholds, drawing international condemnation.
  • Displacement and casualties are rising, with limited refuge options for fleeing residents.

That would be great, but I do have doubts. I can't see Hams surrendering while they have so much support from the West and there seems to be no way to completely destroy Hamas while they don't wear uniforms. Impossible to tell who are Hamas and who are civilians.

Genocide continues.

Murderer at work.

I wonder if Israel would pay the price of the murders once?

And....will they build up Gaza again?

For sure there was/is no chance of free the hostages alive.

Us Brits saved the Jews in WW2.

which I mostly supported until two years ago.

After seeing what is happening on the ground today I wonder why we bothered. For “humanity” ?

And now I think it was definitely a mistake to gift them Israel.

Give them an inch and they want to take a mile.

Well, well, Netanyahu is and remains a definite political sore ...... and nobody does anything about it. The actual culprit of all this sits in London, we all know it and nobody mentions it 😞

Geez the Israeli government needs to work on their propaganda. Human shield, our 9/11, destroy Hamas etc rhetoric have run their course. It’s obvious to the blind that the plan, accelerated by the far right, is to resurrect the kingdom of King David. Oct7 was encouraged to take place to accelerate the expansion plan. If BB can put listening devices in the Oval Office or private toilet of the PM at No10 don’t you think he was totally in on the terror attack? He needs the hostages there or be killed by Hamas. Kills off any chance for negotiation. His regime’s days are numbered though. As AH dream of a 1000 year reich were shattered, his dream of the short-lived Jewish kingdom will also be shattered because human decency usually prevails.

I assume you’re referring to the Isaraeli hostages, not the 1000 + administrative detainees in Israel. Have you ever stopped and asked why Gazans reverted to violence?

What other options did the Palestinians have than armed struggle when the world ignored their peaceful protests and the heinous crimes that the IDF committed in response? They tried peaceful means before and were slaughtered by the IDF. For example, the First Intifada (1987–1993) :-

“The Palestinian response was characterized by protests, civil disobedience, and strikes, with excessive violence in response from Israeli security forces.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Intifada

Gaza border protests (2018–2019):

This was a peaceful protest but….

“Within four days of the first demonstration, those facilities admitted 102 patients suffering from gun wounds in their lower limbs.”

https://www.msf.org/great-march-return-depth

Former IDF soldiers admit they were intentionally crippling peaceful protesters.

The soldiers boasted about how many kneecaps they could hit in one day.

I presume you referring to the battle for air supremacy over Britain. This was achieved by the RAF 14 months before USA entered the war. Unless of course you believe Ben Affleck saved the brits in the movie Pearl Harbour? Even when the USAAF were stationed in Britain the yank fighters played very little part in the defence of the country.

Hopefully but they are scared of the USA. It would be great though if the sent in their armies to get the Palestine land back.

The UN says that more than two million Palestinians are now being told to cram into just 13% of the total Gaza Strip.

"Everyone is looking for a 'safe spot'," a father, Mohammed Ismail, complained to the BBC.

"You should see how the tents are stuck right next to each other. There's no space between one and the next.

"You can hear every word of your neighbour talking to his wife and children. When someone goes to the toilet you can hear them using it. Where are the sewage systems, the sanitation? We call for water and it's all in vain.

If ever have a chance to vote, don't elect hamas to lead your country :cheesy:

13% .. you're lucky they let you use that much ... for now.   You can peek through the fences and watch as the new Israeli settlements are built and the workers go out to the now, Israeli oil  platforms in the sea 😎

Thank you for your contribution.

Saw Blair going to head some rehab thingy for Gaza.  His connection in Saudi should come in handy when they take over the gas platforms.  Pump up his funding to 'Institute for Global Change' and make a 'Global Change' by 2030, to his bank accounts  :cheesy:

Western countries out of guilt for not allowing Jews to immigrate and not saving them from the camps. The Israeli govt & IDF obviously never read history. Now they are the new Nazis. And 80% of the Israeli population supports them.
