A family tragedy unfolded in Cambodia’s Kampot province on Saturday night when a military officer allegedly opened fire during a heated argument over a dog fight, killing four people and injuring others. The suspect, Oum Vuthy, was arrested and now faces charges of murder and illegal possession of a weapon.

The shooting occurred around 8.30 pm at a home in Srey Prey village, Banteay Meas district. Among the deceased are 65-year-old Nheth Chroeun, her daughters Huon Bran and Huon Chruy, and Huon Bran’s husband, Em Vy. Their son, Ra Sok Heng, 21, was wounded in the attack.

Police confirmed that Vuthy, a serving military officer, has been brought before the court for legal proceedings. The incident has shocked the local community and reignited concerns over gun violence and accountability within Cambodia’s armed forces.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the motive or the suspect’s background, but the case is being closely watched as it unfolds.
