The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), together with the Highway Police Division, on 23 September, arrested 16 undocumented migrants and their driver in Kanchanaburi province. Authorities discovered the migrants crammed into a vehicle, with 16 persons  inside the passenger cabin and one hidden in the truck bed under a black tarp.

The arrest took place on Highway 4032 near Moo 4, Sing subdistrict, Sai Yok district, after police noticed a suspicious black vehicle travelling at high speed. The driver, identified as Mr. Jetsada, was stopped for inspection. None of the migrants could produce passports or travel documents.

Mr. Jetsada was charged with “harbouring, assisting, or helping foreigners who illegally entered Thailand to evade arrest,” while the 16 migrants faced charges of “entering and residing in Thailand without authorisation.” Police advised all suspects of their rights, recorded the arrest, and transferred them along with the vehicle and other evidence to Sai Yok Police Station for legal proceedings.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop Phuridej, Pol Maj Gen Kongkrit Lertsitthikul, and Pol Col Phakphol Suchon. The arresting team was led by Pol Lt Col Joe Sao Prakorn and officers from Highway Police Station 6, Division 2. Officials highlighted the ongoing efforts to prevent human trafficking and protect public safety along highways.

Authorities emphasised that professional monitoring and timely intervention are crucial to combating illegal migrant smuggling. The CIB reaffirmed its commitment to acting neutrally while ensuring the law is enforced and public security maintained.

Further operations and investigations are expected to continue to identify other members of the trafficking network and prevent repeat incidents along key transport routes.
