A man has been arrested in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, after allegedly stabbing his wife and nine-month-old daughter to death in broad daylight, leaving a three-year-old girl seriously injured.

The attack occurred at 3:20 p.m. on 7 October in Moan Deh Leu village, Meanchey commune. According to police reports, 25-year-old Soeun Heng Leap fatally attacked his wife, Srang Ifong, and their baby daughter, Leap Linda, outside a relative’s home following a heated argument.

The couple had travelled earlier that day to pick up their niece, Khy Serey Kanya, aged three. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly used a knife to stab his wife and child. The niece was also wounded and rushed to Srey Santhor district hospital before being transferred to Phnom Penh for further treatment.

Local residents were left stunned by the brutality of the incident, which unfolded in front of witnesses. Authorities from Meanchey Police Station and the Public Protection Force arrived promptly, arresting the suspect at the scene and taking him in for questioning.

Police confirmed that formal procedures are underway and the investigation is ongoing. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though domestic violence is suspected.

The case has sparked renewed concern over family violence in rural Cambodia, where support systems are often limited and intervention can come too late. As the community mourns, attention is turning to the wellbeing of the surviving child and the need for stronger protective measures.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked domestic conflict—and the urgent need for early support and intervention.
