US Revokes Visas Over Posts Celebrating Charlie Kirk’s Death

The United States has revoked the visas of six individuals over social media comments regarding the death of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk. The US State Department highlighted that the US has “no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans,” providing screenshots of posts from foreign visa holders celebrating Kirk's death. The incident has sparked a major diplomatic stir, with possible further visa cancellations looming.

In September, Kirk, known for his allegiance to President Donald Trump and his influence among young conservatives, was shot dead during a university event in Utah. While celebrated by conservatives as a free speech advocate, Kirk faced backlash from liberals for his controversial remarks on race and crime. His murder has become a focal point for political tensions, with President Trump posthumously awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, labelling him a "martyr."

Among those affected by the visa cancellations is Nhlamulo Baloyi from South Africa, who publicly acknowledged his revoked business visa after posting comments that the State Department shared. Baloyi described Kirk's followers as "trailer trash," which reportedly led to his visa being pulled last week. The affected individuals hail from Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and Paraguay, signalling the wide-reaching impact of this policy.

This decision reflects a broader Republican pushback against Kirk’s critics, underlined by Vice-President JD Vance's call for reporting individuals who applauded Kirk's death. Additionally, the Trump administration has intensified its social media scrutiny during visa applications, revoking over 6,000 student visas this year—mostly linked to violations such as assault and support for terrorism. The administration’s actions have included targeting students supporting Palestine, further escalating its immigration crackdown.

Key Takeaways

  • The US State Department has revoked visas of six people for comments on Charlie Kirk’s death.
  • Kirk's murder has intensified political divides, with President Trump honouring him posthumously.
  • The Trump administration continues aggressive visa and immigration policy enforcement.

Just another example of how our (USA's) government, under Trump, is just ignoring many of our rights, such as the right to free speech. 😞

Americans have the right to free speech and this does not affect Americans as they do not need to apply for a visa to enter America.  Even the most vile and disgusting Americans can celebrate Chariie Kirks murder without the state kicking down their doors and arresting them.   Foreigners are not protected by the first amendment and America has a right to refuse entry to their country if they prefer not to allow such abhorrent individuals into America.

Those who wish to visit or enter America will now be aware that if they celebrate the murder of an American citizen then America might not want to allow them to enter.  Seems perfectly reasonable to me, and as I am not a vile individual that celebrates someones murder for having a different view to me I will remain unaffected.

Foreigners in America are protected by first amendment rights providing the comments are made inside America.  If the comments made outside, they can be refused entry or deported.

I disagree with you (politely)... 😉 All those living in the USA, whether they are citizens or not, and even if they are in the USA illegally, are protected by our Constitution, including the Second Amendment and the right to our legal processes.

As I told those darned Europeans in Munich, their "commissars" are suppressing free speech. "You cannot win a democratic mandate by censoring your opponents or putting them in jail,"

Free Speech Czar.

N.B. opponents were not specified as citizens.

"Even the most vile and disgusting Americans can celebrate Chariie Kirks murder without the state kicking down their doors and arresting them." Agreed ... closing down TV personalities, threatening media, higher education stations ... another matter entirely?
