Dispute Resolution

Featured Replies

We are setting up a new organization, something like a Better Business Bureau for the ELT world, where teachers and schools can resolve their differences through binding arbitration.

Our website is not up yet---www.esljudge,com---no discussion forums or anything. We just want to help teachers and reputable schools resolve disputes in a clear and fair way.

But we need your help. We are looking for 100 people from all areas of ELT, from the teacher to the DOS to the school owner, to participate in the dispute resolution process. With enough volunteers we hope that you will only be committing yourself to 5 hours per year.

If you are interested, please [please PM him - IJWT]

Sorry, we don't allow emails in posts or commercial (.com) solicitations, even for something that seems like a good cause. When you get your site up, send me a link and if we agree it doesn't compete (as with TEFLwatch) maybe we'll make it a standard recommendation. For now, if anyone's interested, they can send you a PM through their account.

Fair enough. it will not compete. No forums at all. And not anything at all like teflwatch.

From what I understand recently, this effort is intended to be world wide, not specific to Thailand, voluntary, not compulsory. It is meeting with great disdain, derision and disbelief among the Thailand TEFL folks, who cannot imagine why a bad school (any school which might have done something wrong to a teacher) would voluntarily subject themself to something like binding arbitration. If that's not what it would be, what will this 'dispute resolution' be? Conflict resolution? Salary disputes? Legal interpretations of teacher contracts in Thai, or in English?

Great idea in theory. You can get countless bachelor or master degrees in conflict resolution. But how is this related to the reality in Thailand? I'd love to see it work.
