The Royal Thai Police (RTP) announced the arrest of over 17,000 drug suspects and the seizure of more than 96 million meth pills in a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking. This extensive operation, aimed at dismantling major drug rings, also resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of other drugs and illegal items. Assets worth 343 million baht were confiscated along with cash, weapons, and grenades in Thailand.

The RTP's major operation was coordinated by Commissioner-General Pol Gen Kitrat Phankaew, Pol Maj Suriya Singhakamol of the Office of Narcotics Control Board, and Pol Gen Samrarn Nualma from the RTP’s Drug Control Management Centre. Covering over 9,031 locations, the initiative sought to target 1,730 drug rings across the country. The comprehensive effort reflects a zero-tolerance approach to drug trafficking within the nation.

The enforcement action highlighted in the operation led to the confiscation of various illegal substances, including 1,715 kilograms of crystal meth, 740 kilograms of ketamine, 95 kilograms of heroin, and 100,650 ecstasy pills. The crackdown was a part of ongoing efforts by authorities who have already conducted 11 similar nationwide operations during the fiscal year 2025, arresting nearly 90,000 suspects and seizing over 6.2 billion baht in assets.

Pol Gen Samrarn emphasized that these crackdowns are crucial for disrupting drug networks. For the upcoming fiscal year, the RTP plans to intensify efforts by conducting bi-monthly searches for drugs and suspects, particularly focusing on dismantling networks involving local community drug pushers. These sustained actions aim to reinforce the government's commitment to eradicating drug trafficking at its roots.

Key Takeaways

  • Over 17,000 suspects arrested and 96 million meth pills seized.
  • Operations targeted 9,031 locations, dismantling 1,730 drug rings.
  • Future efforts will focus on intensified crackdown operations twice monthly.
